Dental Bridges in Port Coquitlam
Dental bridges are fixed restorations used to replace missing teeth. A bridge consists of one or more artificial teeth that are anchored in place, effectively “bridging the gap” left by missing teeth. A bridge can be used to restore the function and appearance of the teeth, as well as helping to maintain proper bite alignment and ensuring other teeth don’t shift out of place.
When Are Dental Bridges Recommended?
When a patient has suffered tooth loss, a bridge may be recommended as a restoration. There are several ways a bridge can be constructed, and the type used depends on the number of missing teeth, their positions, and the health of nearby teeth. A traditional bridge is secured in place with a crown on healthy teeth on either side of the gap. However, if healthy teeth are not available, a bridge can be secured to a dental implant.
How Dental Bridges Are Completed
Dental bridges require at least two appointments, the first of which is used to prepare the supporting teeth and take impressions so the pontics (artificial teeth) can be created in a dental laboratory. At the next visit, the customized permanent bridge is secured in place and checked for fit and comfort.
