Snoring Devices & Sleep Apnea Devices in Port Coquitlam
While snoring and sleep apnea may be annoying or inconvenient, they can also be serious causes for concern. Healthy, uninterrupted breathing during sleep is essential. There are several treatment options for these issues, including the creation of customized oral devices to reposition the mouth for better breathing, better sleep, better health, and a better quality of life.
Oral Devices for Snoring & Sleep Apnea
Sometimes, mild to moderate sleep apnea and snoring can be treated by repositioning the mouth. These issues are typically caused by the relaxation of the muscles in the upper mouth, which blocks the path of the airway and causes vibrations. Simple oral devices bring the tongue and jaw forward, reducing the ability of the muscles to relax and keeping the airway free.
How to Determine if You Need a Snoring or Sleep Apnea Device
If snoring is keeping you or your partner awake, or if you’re experiencing symptoms of sleep apnea (such as headaches, daytime tiredness, gasping for air at night, difficulty concentrating, or regular interruptions to your sleep), visit your doctor. You’ll receive a sleep apnea test to determine whether or not your nighttime breathing is an issue. At that point your doctor will recommend a treatment plan for you, which may include a custom oral device our dental team can have created for you.
